Local Knowledge + Passion & Enthusiasm = Unique Close Encounters of the Natural Kind!

Firstly, we acknowledge the indigenous peoples of Gariwerd, the Djab Wurrung and Jardwardjali peoples. Our unique journeys are inspired by nature and the very uniqueness of the Gariwerd itself. We offer authentic nature-based experiences in the unique environments in Gariwerd (Grampians National Park). We are 25-year Green tourism veterans and guarantee your time with us will be rewarding and unforgettable.

In December 2024 Lightning started wild fires the Grampians. Although these fires have effected large areas of the Park the Regrowth has already commenced.

After an Australian forest fire, regrowth primarily happens through a process called “resprouting,” where plants with dormant buds beneath their bark or in underground structures sprout new shoots after the fire passes, allowing them to quickly re-establish vegetation, with many native species like Eucalyptus trees being particularly adapted to this method; this regrowth often begins with grasses and shrubs in the understory, followed by tree regeneration depending on the severity of the fire and species present.

Many Australian plants have evolved to survive fire, including thick bark that protects buds, underground rhizomes that store energy, and seed banks that release seeds after a fire passes.

Immediately after a fire, ground-cover plants like grasses and ferns quickly sprout from protected buds, providing initial vegetation cover and preventing soil erosion.

Eucalyptus trees, a common Australian species, utilize “epicormic buds” located beneath the bark which sprout new shoots after the fire damages the aboveground parts.

Some plants rely on fire to trigger seed germination, with seeds released from burnt cones or pods, allowing new seedlings to establish in the ash-enriched soil.

The regrowth process follows a pattern called ecological succession, where pioneer species like grasses and shrubs establish first, followed by slower-growing trees as the environment recovers.

Over the next months and years the Park will return to its former glory. Join with me to experience a once in a generation chance, to see the Grampians eco systems bursting back to life. You will be astounded of the beauty of the forests as they resprout, turning black into vivid green.

Even more fascinating, is the fact that certain species, though not see in years, will now come into there own, bursting into bloom, magically turning the fired ground into a colored spectacle.
